Position Purpose: The Bus Driver is a safety first individual responsible for the careful transport of children and staff on field trips. The Bus Driver must be a compassionate person capable of managing staff and students of varying ages, capable of monitoring on-bus activity, while maintaining diligent on-road excellence. Additionally, the Bus Driver may be required to transport staff on private charter trips. Passengers may include but are not limited to, students, staff, community groups and special needs passengers.

Pay Grid Range: $23.52 - $27.20 depending on experience
Job Results and Responsibility:
- Transport students and staff on field trips.
- Performing pre/post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure optimal vehicle safety.
- Ensuring students’ and staff’s safety while boarding and exiting buses and crossing streets.
- Directs, monitors and disciplines students and ensures compliance with safe loading, riding and unloading procedures.
- Consults with the Manager regarding student behavior.
- Monitor two-way radio and cell phone communications.
- Ensures interior cleanliness of school bus.
- May provide emergency first aid.
- Maintain an upbeat, friendly and congenial personality while greeting, transporting and delivering passengers.
- Maintain an accurate working knowledge of the city, streets and directions.
- Maintain an accurate record logbook detailing passenger’s names, time of departure, destination, time of arrival and time of return.
- Monitor the maintenance of the bus including cleanliness, check-ups, oil checks and gas refills and to report any operating difficulties that may arise.
- Maintain a professional and polite demeanor with passengers at all times.
- Inspect the vehicle to ensure that it is functioning correctly, at the beginning and end of every trip.
- Follow all traffic laws and posted speed limits.
- Be an advocate for health and safety, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with BC Motor Vehicle Act, BC Air Brake Manual, National Safety Code and BC Professional Drives Manual.
- Help load & unload luggage, supplies, ect.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Manager.
Preferred Requirements:
- Completion of Grade 12 plus 3 years related driving experience.
- Possesses a Current First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
- Successfully pass all pertinent vision and health requirements required by ICBC.
- Provide a Clear Drivers Abstract for the last 5 years.
- Provide a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Section Check.
- Possesses a valid BC Class 2 Drivers License with air brake endorsement.
Hours of Work:
Your applicable shifts and hours of work will be up to 7 hours per day as assigned by the Aboriginal HeadStart Manager from Monday to Sunday, and it is expected that all work will be completed within your regular working hours, however, you may be required from time to time to work outside of your normal working hours.
Working Conditions:
- Frequent driving of school bus or other vehicles.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Supervising and managing large numbers of children, staff or others on a bus.
- Working after hours and sometimes weekends should the need arise.
