Position Purpose: Nak’azdli Whut’en (Nak’azdli), through the position of the Nak’azdli/Mt. Milligan HR Liaison Office will be responsible for supporting and facilitating a positive relationship between the Company and Nak’azdli, and ensuring that the commitments outlined in the Impact Benefit Agreement between the two parties regarding the Mount Milligan mine, are upheld, particularly those relating to Employment and Training.

Pay Grid Range: $50,000 - $60,000 Annually pending on experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Connect and work closely with Nak’azdli community members to improve access to training information and employment opportunities.
- Work with Mt. Milligan HR Department to identify those interested in working at the mine and liaise with training providers including Mount Milligan and contractors.
- Prepare and implement an annual workplan and schedule to report back to the community as well as the COO and Director of Education & Language.
- Meet with mine employees on site or in the home community to listen to employment-related concerns, increase awareness of HR Policies & Procedures.
- Collaboratively work with Mount Milligan to implement commitments outlined in the Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA).
- Coordinate IBA meetings between the two parties and corresponding reports, if required, and support the overall implementation of the IBA.
- Assist the Company with coordinating meetings with Nak’azdli Administration as well as Chief & Council.
- Assist the Company with the coordination of presentations to Nak’azdli members, including open houses and/or technical meetings.
- Support Nak’azdli participation in permitting activities related to the Mount Milligan mine, as required.
- Liaison with CNC Fort St. James Campus, Work BC and PGNAETA, as needed to support the Company and Nak’azdli employment and training objectives, as set out in the IBA.
- Facilitate the involvement of Company employees in Nak’azdli events.
- Other tasks that may be assigned by the Director of Education & Language from time to time.
Specific Duties relating to Employment & Training:
- Develop a communication strategy to ensure that vacant positions at the Company are advertised within the community and assist interested candidates with their application.
- Interview applicants to determine their vocational skills, interests and employability prior to the candidate submitting their application to the Company to ensure that they meet the specific requirements.
- Develop and maintain a database or tracking system identifying skilled/qualified community members who are available for employment.
- Work with the Company Human Resources Dept to inform and prepare interested applicants about policies and expectations at the Mount Milligan mine site.
- Work with the Company Human Resources Dept. to review and short-list resumes for consideration for vacancies.
- Organize and/or facilitate information sessions to keep Nak’azdli community members informed about current events and job opportunities at the Company.
- Participate in interviews with candidates from Nak'azdli for Apprenticeships offered by the Company.
- Assist Nak'azdli community members in developing their education and career plans. Considering programs through local schools and institutions and seeking Provincial/Federal funding as available and appropriate.
- Understand the Company’s training process and progression plans to clarify and resolve issues related to advancement.
- Support the development and implementation of the Company’s training programs for Nak’azdli members, including coordinating and facilitating programs in Nak’azdli, Fort St. James and around the region, and researching and applying for Provincial/Federal funding, if available.
- Support the delivery of the Company’s Cultural Diversity course, including preparing and delivering Nak’azdli-specific cultural and historical content.
- Plan and undertake regular visits to Mount Milligan to develop rapport, credibility and trust with employees on the mine site.
- Identify, escalate and assist in alleviating common barriers to Indigenous employment and training issues with the Company Human Resource Dept.
- Become well immersed with the Company Human Resource policies and programs, to support, interpret and clarify issues brought forward by Indigenous employees.
- Review new and/or revised policies that will impact mine personnel with the Company Human Resources Dept.
- Act as an advocate to support investigations or issued brought forward by Nak’azdli members.
- Promote cultural diversity by assisting with the organization and delivery of Company events that aim to increase awareness and engagement in local Indigenous culture.
- Prepare a monthly report, in form satisfactory to the Company and Nak’azdli, on activities relating to the Services, to be submitted to the Yinka Huwunline Manager (Nak’azdli), Chief Operating Officer (Nak’azdli), Human Resources Manager (Company), and Sustainability Manager (Centerra Gold Services Inc., acting as agent to the Company)
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Human Resources Management or related field or a combination of experience and education.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational / project management skills.
- Proficient with MS Office suite.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Always maintain diplomacy and professional conduct.
- Possess a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
Hours of Work:
This is a salaried position without any overtime eligibility. Although regular office hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, hours to travel and at remote camp sites may be longer and variable. You may also be required to carry out work on occasion outside of your normal hours of work.
Working Conditions:
The position requires frequent travel to Mount Milligan mine site and a flexible attitude towards work hours and schedules. Evening and weekend work may be required. Bus transportation to and from the Mount Milligan mine site from either Fort St. James or Prince George, as well as camp accommodation or lodging will be provided by the mine stie operator.
