Position Summary: The Research and Planning Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting the Yinka Huwunline Department’s mandate by conducting research, analyzing data, and coordinating strategic planning initiatives. This position requires a strong understanding of Indigenous stewardship practices, natural resource management, and the integration of Keyoh priorities into decision-making processes. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure research and planning efforts align with Nak’azdli Whut’en’s values, governance structure, and long-term goals.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:
Research and Analysis
- Conduct in-depth research on policies, environmental issues, and resource management strategies relevant to Nak’azdli Whut’en lands.
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
- Monitor and evaluate trends in environmental stewardship, biodiversity, and cultural heritage management.
Strategic Planning
- Support the development and implementation of departmental plans, including the Forest Management Plan, Wildlife Initiatives, and Community-Based Land Use Plans.
- Work with Keyoh leaders to incorporate traditional knowledge and priorities into planning processes.
- Assist in creating frameworks for intergovernmental agreements and partnerships.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Collaborate with other departments, Keyoh, and external organizations to gather information and align projects.
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, and community engagement sessions to gather input on planning initiatives.
- Work with the Operations Manager and Director to develop clear timelines, deliverables, and reporting structures.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare detailed reports, briefing notes, and presentations for leadership and external partners.
- Develop templates for ongoing reporting on research findings and project updates.
- Maintain organized and accessible records of all research and planning activities.
Capacity Building
- Identify training opportunities and resources to enhance departmental capacity in research and planning.
- Support the integration of advanced tools and technology (GIS, data analysis software, etc.) to improve planning processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Indigenous Governance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in research, planning, or project coordination roles.
- Knowledge of Nak’azdli Whut’en culture, values, and governance systems is strongly preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, and other project management tools (GIS experience is an asset).
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in a respectful and inclusive manner.
- Self-motivated and organized, with strong time-management skills.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Willingness to travel for fieldwork and meetings.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The Research and Planning Coordinator will primarily work in an office environment with occasional fieldwork in the Nak’azdli Whut’en traditional territory. This role requires balancing multiple projects and deadlines, sometimes under pressure.
HOURS OF WORK
Regular hours of work will be from 8:00am - 4:00pm for 7 hours per day from Monday to Friday up to 35 hours per week. It is expected that all work will be completed within your regular working hours, however, you may be required from time to time to work outside your normal hours of work.
