On Call – Meals on Wheels Worker

 Position Purpose: Meals on Wheels is a service program that delivers meals to individuals at home who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals.  The Meals on Wheels shall assist with the development of meal plans, grocery lists, responsible for ordering supplies, preparing menu as planned, delivering food to homes, provide informal physical wellness and safety checks, and providing citizens with relevant information.               

Type: On-Call

Reports to: Social Development Manager

Pay Gride Range: 18.00$ to 22.00$ an hour based on Experience

 Job Results and Responsibilities:  

  • Order meal supplies weekly.
  • Create diabetic-friendly meal plans.
  • Purchase cooking supplies.
  • Provide weekly nutrition/healthy living tips.
  • Assist in preparation and serving of meals.
  • Ensure all health and safety protocols are adhered to.
  • Assist in delivering meals.
  • Cooking and preparing foods.
  • Delivery with some driving required.
  • Update grocery lists
  • Assist in planning, ordering, etc.

 Requirements: 

  • Grade 10
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check
  • Possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

Hours of Work

Your regular hours or work will be from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 3 pm, up to 25 hours per week, and it is expected that all work will be completed within your regular working hours, however, you may be required from time to time to work outside your normal working hours. As on-call, there is no guarantee of hours or days, which will be on an as-needed basis.

Working Conditions

  • Physically capable of lifting heavy objects
  • Standing or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Able and willing to work outdoors in all-weather conditions.
